Welcome to Wilder Construction Company

Founded in Blaine, Washington in 1911, Wilder Construction Company (Wilder) has grown to become an industry leader throughout the Western United States and Alaska. Building on 95 years of experience, Wilder continues to pride itself in the development of our communities both in the public and private sector in the areas of heavy civil construction, highway, underground utilities, paving, site work and environmental remediation. In addition, Wilder owns and operates local facilities that produce quality aggregates, sand and asphalt concrete.

Throughout its growth and success over the years it is the people of Wilder that are the common thread that has defined our company. Without a loyal, dedicated, efficient, safety-minded work force Wilder could not excel in the many arenas in which we compete.

Wilder Wins Outstanding General Contractor Award
(over 400,000 worker hours)

On May 17th 2007, the Associated General Contractors of Washington recognized some of the states most successful projects at a banquet at the Seattle Museum of Flight. Formerly called the Safety and Construction Excellence Awards, this year the program was renamed the Build Washington Awards.

In the category of Safety Awards, Wilder Construction received the Outstanding General Contractor Award for companies that exceed 400,000 worker hours.

"Wilder's philosophy is a strong safety program starts with an effective safety orientation for new employees. New employees watch a company produced video describing key safety policies, review the safety handbook with their supervisor, and review specific jobsite requirements with a member of the safety department. Before the employee starts work, he/she is made aware that working safely is a performance expectation and that it is the responsibility of all Wilder employees.

Each employee is made to feel welcome and given a management contact thay can call for any issues. Over the last two years Wilder has succesfully implemented two new safety programs. The DuPont STOP program, also known as the Safety Training Observation Program, improves safety by having supervisors engage in the one-on-one dialog with each employee to reinforce observed good safety behaviors and correct unsafe behaviors.

The company also uses the Take 5 program, which is a daily planning tool where each supervisor takes five minutes with his/her crew at the start of the shift to discuss safety and production goals for the day's work. Written documentation for each of these programs is collected to measure engagement levels to ensure effectiveness."
